Banking and financial services mock interview, round by round
BFSI hiring in India splits between the exam route into public sector banks and direct interviews at private banks, NBFCs and insurers. The exam route ends in a board-style panel that has your marksheet in front of it. The private route is closer to a sales interview with a compliance conscience.
Roles covered: Relationship manager, Credit analyst, Branch manager.
- Whether you understand the product you would be selling, not just the target attached to it
- Numerical accuracy under mild pressure, because the job is arithmetic in front of a customer
- Integrity questions, asked indirectly: what you would do when the easy sale is the wrong sale
Start an interview drive in this field and the AI runs these rounds back to back, scoring each one before the next opens. The sequence differs by field, which is why a sales drive includes a client roleplay and a manufacturing drive does not.

Why banking, and why this bank?
The stock answer about stability is heard forty times a day. Name something specific: the branch network in your region, a product line you have actually used, the shift to digital lending. Then connect it to what you want to do daily.
A customer wants a product that is wrong for them but hits your target. What do you do?
Say plainly that you would not mis-sell, then show you understand the commercial reality: what you would offer instead, and how you would keep the relationship. Panels are testing whether you know mis-selling costs the bank more than the sale earns.
Explain repo rate, CRR and how they affect a bank's lending.
Definitions in one line each, then the causal chain: a rate change moves the cost of funds, which moves loan pricing, which moves demand. Add one current-affairs data point if you are sure of it, and skip it entirely if you are not.
- Public sector panels weigh your academic record and current affairs more than any private interview will. Read one financial daily for the fortnight before the panel.
- Know your own numbers if you are experienced: portfolio size, book growth, delinquency, and where the growth actually came from.
- Interview seasons cluster after the exam results, so prepare in October and November rather than in the week you are called.
