An action verb, the thing you actually did, and a number that shows the result. "Responsible for the payments service" describes a job; "Cut payment failures 38% by reworking the retry path" describes an engineer.
What if I don't have metrics?
Most people do have them and simply don't recognise them: team size, ticket volume, release frequency, uptime, time saved, cost avoided. If a number genuinely doesn't exist, describe the scope and the outcome instead.
How many bullets should I write per role?
Three to five for your recent roles, and one or two for older ones. Every extra bullet you add takes attention away from the ones that matter.
