Resume Format for Freshers (2026 Guide)

A fresher resume has one job: prove capability without a work history to point at. That means projects and coursework carry the weight experience normally would, and the section order changes accordingly.

Section order

  1. 01Contact details
  2. 02One-line summary
  3. 03Education
  4. 04Projects
  5. 05Technical skills
  6. 06Internships / training
  7. 07Achievements & certifications

Put education above everything else

With under a year of experience, your degree, branch, institute and graduation year are the first filter a recruiter applies. Include your CGPA if it is 7.0 or above. If it is lower, leave it out instead of drawing attention to it.

Projects replace work experience

Two to three projects, each with three bullets: what you built, the stack you used, and what it achieved or handled. A link to the repository or a live demo is worth more than another paragraph of description.

Keep it to one page

No fresher resume needs two pages. If yours runs over, cut the school-level details and the generic skill lists. Don't shrink the font to squeeze it in.

Skip the objective statement

"Seeking a challenging role in a reputed organisation" tells a recruiter nothing and burns the most valuable line on the page. Replace it with one sentence naming your specialisation and what you want to build.

Questions

What is the best resume format for freshers?

Reverse-chronological, with education first and projects after it. Functional and combination formats make it look like you are hiding a gap, which is the last thing a fresher wants to signal.

Should a fresher resume be one page or two?

One page, always. Recruiters spend under ten seconds on a first pass and a second page for a fresher reads as padding.

What if I have no projects or internships?

Build one small project before applying. A weekend project with a working demo beats an empty projects section, and it gives you something concrete to talk about in the interview.
