Resume format for Indian freshers (2026)

An Indian fresher resume is read by software and parsers that have been trained on Indian hiring habits, not Western ones. The sections that matter and the lines that hurt are different from the generic fresher advice. This guide is built around what the Indian campus-placement rubrics and the ATS systems used by TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture and the product-company career portals actually screen on.

Drop the photo, the declaration and the objective

Three habits are near-universal on Indian fresher resumes and near-absent on the ones that get shortlisted. The photo is a parsing hazard and an age-and-gender bias the recruiter doesn't need. The declaration block ('I hereby declare that the above information is true') has no function on a screened CV. The objective line, 'seeking a challenging role in a reputed organisation', burns the most valuable line on the page saying nothing. Replace it with one sentence naming your specialisation and what you've built.

Keep Class 10 and 12 percentages only if the company asks

Some campus rubrics still ask for Class 10 and 12 marks. If the company you're applying to is one of them, include them. If it isn't, the lines do nothing for you and a project does. Once you have a degree and any experience, drop them entirely. They invite age screening and add no signal.

Lead with your projects

Coursework is on your transcript. Projects are evidence you can build something. Two to three projects, each with three bullets covering what you built, the stack, and what it did or handled, and at least one with a live link or a repository with a README. Lead with the project that has the most specific number attached to it.

Group your skills by category

Languages, frameworks, databases, tools. Each on its own line, each grouped. The parser matches tokens; the screener reads categories. A wall of fifty keywords reads as padding; three short grouped lines read as someone who knows where each thing fits.

List each internship with the outcome it produced

'Worked on the payments module at XYZ' describes a calendar. 'Built and shipped a settlement reconciliation job that ran nightly on 1.2 lakh transactions' describes you. If the internship was really just a generic shadowing stint, say so in one line and give the space to projects instead.

One page, always

No Indian fresher resume needs two pages. If yours runs over, cut the school marks, the generic skill lists and the declaration. Don't shrink the font. One page also reads as confidence, because it shows you know what matters.

Questions

Should an Indian fresher resume include a photo?

No. It's a parsing hazard, a bias risk, and it adds no information your degree and projects don't already convey.

What is the right fresher resume format for TCS, Infosys and Wipro?

Single-column, parser-safe, with standard headings: Education, Projects, Skills, Internships. The campus-placement portals for these employers run ATS screens before a human sees the resume, so a two-column or graphically designed fresher resume fails the parse far more often than it gets noticed for the design.

Should I include Class 10 and 12 percentages?

Only if the company you are applying to lists them in its eligibility criteria. For most product-company and startup applications after you have a degree, drop them entirely.

How many projects should an Indian fresher list?

Two or three, each specific. A list of five generic projects reads as none of them going deep. Pick the one with the strongest number on it and lead with that.
