IT and software mock interview, round by round
Software hiring in India runs two very different processes under one name. A services company screens at volume through an aptitude and coding test before anyone speaks to you, and a product company spends most of its time on how you think through a problem you have not seen before.
Roles covered: Software engineer, Backend developer, Full stack developer.
- Whether you can explain your own project without the slide deck, including the part somebody else built
- Fundamentals that survive without an IDE: data structures, complexity, and how your database actually stores things
- How you behave when the question is open-ended and the interviewer stops helping
Start an interview drive in this field and the AI runs these rounds back to back, scoring each one before the next opens. The sequence differs by field, which is why a sales drive includes a client roleplay and a manufacturing drive does not.

Walk me through your project end to end.
The problem, your specific contribution, the stack, and one thing that went wrong and how you fixed it. Interviewers probe the part you sound least confident about, so know the piece you did not personally build well enough to describe it anyway.
How would you design this feature to handle ten times the traffic?
Separate the read path from the write path, say where a cache goes and what it costs you in staleness, and name the failure you are most worried about. Saying "I would add a queue here, and here is what breaks if it backs up" beats a longer answer with no trade-off in it.
Why are you moving from a service-based company to a product company?
Answer about the work rather than about the employer. Ownership of one product over years, closeness to the user, depth over breadth. Do not run down your current company: the panel has usually worked at one.
- Freshers: the test filters you, not the interview. Practise timed aptitude and one language until the syntax is automatic.
- Experienced: expect one round that is purely about a system you have run in production, including what broke.
- Have your notice period and a joining date ready. In services hiring this decides scheduling more than your answers do.
