Education & Teaching

Education and teaching mock interview, round by round

Teaching interviews almost always include a demonstration lesson, and that demo decides the offer. The panel is a principal or head of department watching whether a class would stay with you, and the conversation afterwards is mostly about classroom management and assessment.

Roles covered: Teacher, Lecturer, Academic coordinator.

What the panel is really testing
  • Whether you can teach to a mixed-ability class rather than to the top three students
  • Assessment: how you know a concept landed, beyond the unit test
  • Discipline handling that does not rely on fear
The rounds a education and teaching drive runs

Start an interview drive in this field and the AI runs these rounds back to back, scoring each one before the next opens. The sequence differs by field, which is why a sales drive includes a client roleplay and a manufacturing drive does not.

Questions you should expect

Teach us a fifteen-minute lesson on a topic of your choice.

Open with a hook, check understanding twice in the middle, and close with something they do rather than something you say. Panels mark participation, not polish, so plan a question you will ask the room.

A student is consistently disruptive. What do you do?

In order: private conversation, finding the cause, involving the class teacher or counsellor, then parents. Say what you would not do, which is embarrass the student in front of the class.

How do you handle a class where half the students are far behind?

Differentiated tasks, peer pairing, and a specific remedial routine you have run. Talk about what you cut from the lesson to make time, because that is the real constraint and panels notice when you know it.

What candidates get wrong here
  • Rehearse the demo lesson out loud with a timer. Overrunning is the most common reason a good teacher loses this round.
  • Know the board and curriculum the school follows, and use its vocabulary.
  • Carry lesson plans and any student work you are allowed to show. It shortens every other question.
