Zomato

Zomato interview questions

Zomato's process is similar in shape to other consumer-tech companies — DSA rounds, a system-design round grounded in the product — but the HR round is noticeably more informal and direct than a typical MNC conversation, in keeping with the company's public tone.

Roles covered: SDE roles across the food-delivery and dining platforms, hired mostly through lateral and off-campus hiring. We are not affiliated with Zomato and this is not an official question bank. It describes what candidates consistently report, reviewed for the 2025–26 hiring cycle. Confirm the current process on the company’s own careers page before you apply.

The rounds
01

Online assessment

Timed, coding-focused

DSA problems, sometimes paired with a short product-sense question.

02

Technical interview 1

One-on-one

DSA with working code, and a walkthrough of your approach before you start typing.

03

Technical interview 2 / system design

One-on-one

Design a feature grounded in the product — restaurant discovery, order tracking, or a ratings pipeline — with real numbers to reason about.

04

HR

One-on-one, often more conversational than formal

Direct questions about fit, pace, and why you want to work somewhere that changes direction often.

Technical round

Design a search-and-ranking system for restaurants near a user.

Geo-filtering first, then ranking signals (rating, distance, past orders), and how you'd keep it fast at query time rather than compute-heavy per request.

Detect a cycle in a graph.

DFS with a visited/in-progress marker, and the follow-up for how the approach differs between a directed and an undirected graph.

How would you design a review-and-rating system that resists fake reviews?

Verified-purchase gating, rate limits per account, and the signals you'd use to flag anomalies — without claiming a definitive detection algorithm exists.

HR round

Tell me about a time priorities changed on you midway through a project.

What changed, how you re-planned, and what you protected versus what you dropped.

What's a product decision Zomato made that you'd have done differently?

A specific, defensible opinion, not vague criticism — this rewards candidates who've actually used the product.

What candidates get wrong here
  • Use the product before the interview if you haven't recently — opinion questions about the app come up, and a specific answer reads far better than a generic one.
  • Keep HR-round answers direct and short; a rehearsed, corporate-style answer lands worse here than it would at a services company.

Practise them, don’t only read them

Practise these against an AI interviewer that asks the follow-ups and scores your answer, including the HR questions on notice period and expected CTC. Or check your resume first with the free ATS score checker.
