OpenText interview questions
OpenText's campus process in India is short. A coding test with two array or string problems comes first, and many drives go straight to an HR conversation after it, though some add a technical round. Experienced hires face a Java-heavy loop: two or three technical rounds, a hiring manager, and at senior levels a Director round. OpenText also warns candidates about recruiter scams and asks them to verify offers with its HR team.
Roles covered: Java backend software engineers from SDE to Principal, plus engineering interns, in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. We are not affiliated with OpenText and this is not an official question bank. It describes what candidates consistently report, reviewed for the 2025–26 hiring cycle. Confirm the current process on the company’s own careers page before you apply.
Online coding test (campus)
Two easy-to-medium problems, usually arrays or strings
Working code that passes the test cases. Some drives add MCQs.
Technical rounds
Campus: sometimes one round. Experienced: two or three
Core Java, multithreading, design patterns and DSA, mostly linked lists and strings.
Hiring manager
Experienced hires, about an hour
Your current project's architecture, Spring Boot, Docker, and how you handle production issues.
Director round and HR
Director or VP rounds appear at SDE level and above. HR closes every loop
System thinking and ownership in the Director round. HR is usually conversational.
Write a thread-safe Singleton in Java.
Explain the double-checked locking version and why volatile matters, or the enum approach. This shows up in several reports.
How would you share work between threads safely?
Cover synchronized, ExecutorService and concurrent collections, and name one bug you'd expect from careless sharing.
Explain the JVM memory model and how you'd debug an OutOfMemoryError.
Talk through the heap and stack and garbage collection, then the tools you'd use to find the leak.
Explain the SOLID principles with an example from your code.
Pick two you've applied and show the before and after. Reciting all five without examples is a weak answer.
Reverse a linked list, or remove consecutive duplicates from a string.
Code it in Java when you're applying for a Java role, since that's what the panel is assessing.
Tell me about yourself.
Keep it short and focused on your project. Fresher HR rounds are reported as friendly conversations.
Walk me through a project. Was it group or individual work, and why that approach?
Be clear about your own part and the reason behind your technical choice.
How do you handle pressure when production breaks?
Asked in manager rounds. Describe how you triage, communicate and follow up afterwards.
Do you have any questions for us?
Ask about the product you'd work on and how the team ships. It shows real interest.
- Answer coding questions in Java for Java roles. It's what the panel is judging.
- Prepare an architecture diagram of your current project for the manager and Director rounds.
- Check any offer or recruiter message with OpenText's HR team before you share documents. The company warns about impersonation scams.
Practise them, don’t only read them
