Société Générale interview questions
Société Générale's Global Solution Centre in Bengaluru and Chennai runs a different process for each route. Campus candidates take an online test with aptitude, technical MCQs and two coding questions, then technical, managerial and HR interviews, often on the same day. Experienced engineers are shortlisted on their resume and go through Java, Spring and DSA rounds. Analyst roles get finance and risk questions.
Roles covered: SDE interns and graduate engineers on campus; Specialist and Lead Software Engineers and business and risk analysts at the Global Solution Centre in Bengaluru and Chennai. We are not affiliated with Société Générale and this is not an official question bank. It describes what candidates consistently report, reviewed for the 2025–26 hiring cycle. Confirm the current process on the company’s own careers page before you apply.
Online assessment (campus)
Aptitude, technical MCQs and two coding problems, judged on efficiency as well as correctness
Easy-to-medium DSA and CS fundamentals. Some drives add a group discussion.
Technical round
One or two rounds
OOP, SOLID, medium DSA and SQL. Experienced hires also get core Java, multithreading, Spring and microservices.
Technical-cum-managerial round
Often combined into one
Your project, your design choices, and how you'd handle a priority production bug.
HR
Usually short
Why SG, your location preference, and whether you're comfortable with shifts.
Explain SOLID and a design pattern you've used.
Reported across campus and experienced rounds. Use a pattern from your own project and say why you chose it.
Solve a medium DSA problem and explain its complexity.
Efficiency matters here. Hidden test cases check time complexity, so state it and improve it before you submit.
What's the difference between DELETE, TRUNCATE and DROP? How do ROLLBACK and SAVEPOINT work?
Cover each command's scope and whether it can be undone, then show a savepoint inside a short transaction.
(Experienced) How does autoboxing work in Java, and what goes wrong when threads share data?
Explain the cost of boxing and Integer caching, then race conditions and how you'd fix one in your own code.
(Analyst roles) What's the difference between a bond's clean price and dirty price?
The clean price leaves out accrued interest and the dirty price includes it. Analyst rounds also ask about counterparty risk and trade reconciliation.
Why Société Générale?
Mention its role as a global bank and what the Global Solution Centre builds for it, and link that to your interest in finance technology.
Are you comfortable with night shifts or flexible hours?
Campus drives have asked this often, since teams support global markets. Answer honestly.
Bengaluru or Chennai, and what if you don't get your choice?
Give your preference and say clearly whether you'd accept the other city.
Walk me through your resume and academics.
Be ready to explain any gap or dip in marks briefly and without apologising.
- Know which route you're on. Campus, experienced tech and analyst roles are tested differently.
- For analyst roles, revise basic finance: bond pricing, credit risk and reconciliation.
- Write efficient code in the online test, since time complexity is checked against hidden test cases.
