Taj Hotels

Taj Hotels (IHCL) interview questions

Luxury hospitality recruitment weighs grooming, composure and guest-facing judgement as heavily as technical knowledge. Candidates consistently report a group discussion or activity round before the personal interview, and that the panel pays close attention to how you carry yourself throughout the day, not only while answering.

Roles covered: Front Office Executive, Guest Relations, and Food & Beverage service roles. We are not affiliated with Taj Hotels and this is not an official question bank. It describes what candidates consistently report, reviewed for the 2025–26 hiring cycle. Confirm the current process on the company’s own careers page before you apply.

The rounds
01

Group discussion or activity

Group, often a service scenario

Composure, listening, how you behave when someone else is speaking.

02

Departmental interview

One-on-one with the department head

Technical knowledge for the department, PMS familiarity, service standards.

03

General manager or HR round

One-on-one

Motivation, shift and relocation willingness, long-term intent in hospitality.

Technical round

The hotel is oversold by four rooms tonight. What do you do?

Decide who to walk by arrival time and loyalty status, book and pay for a comparable property, arrange transport, and tell the guest before they reach the desk. Owning the guest's experience through the failure is the answer.

A guest disputes a charge at checkout with a queue behind them. How do you handle it?

Move them out of the queue, pull the folio and backing docket, resolve it in front of them. Protecting both the guest's dignity and the queue is the skill being tested.

Which property management systems have you used?

Name them — Opera in particular. Prior fluency removes weeks of training cost and is a genuine differentiator.

What does luxury service mean beyond politeness?

Anticipation and recovery: noticing what a guest needs before they ask, and handling failure so well the guest remembers the recovery. Give one concrete example.

HR round

Why hospitality, given the hours?

Answer the hours honestly rather than around them. Panels have seen many people leave the industry over exactly that.

Tell me about a guest complaint you turned around.

A real one, with what you did and what the guest said afterwards. This is the most predictable question in the round.

Are you willing to work night shifts including night audit?

Yes, and mention it if you have already done it — it is a distinct responsibility involving the day's financial close.

What candidates get wrong here
  • Grooming is assessed from the moment you arrive, not only in the interview room.
  • Learn the property before you go — its restaurants, its room categories, what it is known for.
  • In the group round, make the discussion work rather than trying to win it. Panels are watching for exactly that.
