Data Analyst resume
Data analyst resumes get screened for tool fluency first and business impact second. The second one is where almost everybody loses out. If you list SQL, Excel and Power BI without naming a single decision that changed because of your analysis, your resume reads like a course completion certificate instead of a job history.
- 01SQL, stated plainly. It is on nearly every posting and it is the first thing checked.
- 02The visualisation tool the posting names. Power BI and Tableau are rarely interchangeable to a screener, even though the skill transfers fine.
- 03A decision or outcome your analysis actually changed.
- 04Domain familiarity, if the posting is domain-heavy: retail, banking, healthcare, logistics.

Put down only what is true and what you can be interviewed on. A term you cannot defend will win you the screening and then lose you the interview.
Created dashboards and reports for the sales team using Power BI.
Built the regional sales dashboard used weekly by 30 area managers; the churn cohort it surfaced led to a retention campaign that recovered ₹40L in annualised revenue.
- Listing tools with no output attached to any of them.
- "Analysed data to derive insights" is about the least informative sentence available. Name the analysis and the decision instead.
- Leaving out SQL because it felt too basic to mention. It is the keyword the screen is built on.

For most analyst postings SQL and a BI tool matter more. Python widens your options and is close to mandatory once you move towards data science.
How do I show impact when I only produced reports?
Report on the report: who used it, how often, what changed because of it. Adoption and decisions count as impact even when the revenue isn't yours to claim.
Are certifications worth listing?
One or two relevant ones, near the bottom. They do not substitute for a project someone actually used.
