Business Development Executive resume

A BD resume is judged on pipeline arithmetic. Where did your leads come from, how many converted, and what did that add up to? Activity without conversion reads as busywork.

What gets checked first
  1. 01Revenue or deal value closed, with the period it covers.
  2. 02Conversion rate, and the stage-to-stage numbers behind it where you have them.
  3. 03Territory or segment ownership: geography, industry, deal size band.
  4. 04Whether you built the pipeline yourself or worked inbound leads. Both are fine; conflating them is not.
Keywords the ATS matches on

  • lead generation
  • cold outreach
  • qualification
  • BANT
  • pipeline management

  • negotiation
  • proposal
  • RFP
  • contract renewal
  • upsell
  • cross-sell

  • HubSpot
  • LinkedIn Sales Navigator
  • CRM hygiene

Put down only what is true and what you can be interviewed on. A term you cannot defend will win you the screening and then lose you the interview.

Mistakes that cost interviews
  • "Exceeded targets consistently" with no target named. It is the most common line on a BD resume and carries nothing.
  • Counting calls and emails as achievements. Activity is input; the reader wants output.
  • Hiding a short tenure. Sales tenures are often short for reasons a screener understands — an unexplained gap invites a worse assumption.

Questions

What if my company will not let me share revenue numbers?

Use percentage of target, growth rate, or deal count. Every one of those is checkable in an interview and none of them leaks a figure.

Should I list the clients I closed?

Name them only if the logos are public and the relationship is not confidential. Otherwise describe them by size and sector.

How far back should sales numbers go?

Three to four years. Older numbers were a different market and get discounted anyway.
